Subterranean Heaven

Nowadays I'm driving underground
in my subterranean heaven. Worms
and roots and gangly things greet me
as I speedily pass them by. I tip my hat
and send them good cheer, but they
don't seem to notice or give a damn.

In this personal underground railroad,
I drive myself to a new place from
whence I came. To an untamed,
unnamed destination, devoid of
rules or regulations.

And though at times this burrowed
place of which I dwell, has the outer
appearance of utter darkness, through
presence of mind I turn my head
beams high; reminding myself that
I am always the light at the end of
my own tunnel.
